February 26, 1974, was another in a long string of relentless, numbing days of criticism for the embattled President Nixon. The Watergate affair continued to fuel his critics and his ability to govern was increasingly called into question. His call to end the Watergate investigation during his State of the Union address less than one month earlier had failed miserably. July 2, 1974. Nixon grimly attempted to pursue both his foreign and domestic agenda. As the summer of 1974 began, Nixon visited Moscow. He hosted a final dinner with Soviet Premier Kruschev at the Spaso House in Moscow prior to his departure.
